ABOUT US

Therapeutic intervention (2).png

Akima was founded in 2023 to stand with young people navigating the weight of grief, trauma, and emotional decline — often in the aftermath of violence, grooming, exploitation, and the pressures of modern life.

Born from both professional expertise and lived experience, Akima was created by a psychotherapist who has not only worked with trauma, but carried it too. This deep understanding shapes our mission: to walk beside young people through their most challenging and life-altering moments.

In a world that has become increasingly desensitised to tragedy, we recognise the lasting pain left behind for those directly impacted. For young people who experience or witness trauma, the aftermath is never simple.

Akima exists as a safe space dedicated to healing, empowerment, and hope — transforming pain into progress, and ensuring no young person has to face their journey alone.

What We Do

Akima exists to support young people aged 16–25 through the challenges that trauma leaves behind. We work with those facing anxiety, depression, loss of purpose, grief, or the pressures of violence, grooming, and exploitation.

Our approach is experience-led and deeply personal. Through therapy, mentoring, and targeted interventions, we build tailored pathways that focus on mental, emotional, and social wellbeing.

We know trauma doesn’t just affect the individual — it touches families and carers too. That’s why our services also extend to those walking beside young people, offering them the tools and support to navigate these difficult journeys together.

At the heart of everything we do is one aim: to turn pain into progress, and create spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and equipped to thrive.

Our Vision

Akima stands for more than aftercare — we stand for change.
We are here to break the silence around mental health, to challenge stigma, and to open doors where they have been shut.

For young people, this means finding purpose, recognising potential, and turning “opps” into opportunities.
For communities, it means restoring hope through education, intervention, and empowerment.

With lived experience at our core, and the strength of our trustees, mentors, and support team beside us, Akima is building spaces where healing is possible and futures can be rewritten.

Get Involved

We proudly champion peer-led services and invite young people to volunteer, share their experiences, and be part of a movement focused on healing and transformation.

Together, we are working toward a future where knife and gun crime are no longer daily headlines—and where our young people can feel safe, seen, and supported.

We are committed to doing our part, For our children, For your children, For our future!

There’s no UNITY in the commUNITY without U and I
