ABOUT US

Therapeutic intervention (2).png

Founded in 2023, Akima is a dedicated aftercare youth mental health and well-being charity supporting young people who are navigating grief, trauma, and emotional decline - Particularly caused by the aftermath of knife and gun violence, gang grooming, and the mounting pressures of modern society.

Our charity was born from both professional expertise and personal experience. Our founder, an international psychotherapist and coach, has not only worked extensively with trauma but has also lived through its harsh realities. This deep understanding fuels our mission to stand beside young people during their most challenging and life-altering moments.

In a world that is increasingly desensitized to tragedy, we recognise the lasting pain left behind for those directly impacted. For the young people experiencing or witnessing such trauma, the aftermath is anything but simple. This growing crisis, and the lack of adequate support, inspired the creation of Akima—a safe space dedicated to healing, empowerment, and hope.

What We Do

At Akima, we provide tailored therapeutic support for young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety, depression, and low moods

  • Loss of motivation and purpose

  • Grief following traumatic events

  • Pressures from gang involvement, grooming, and violence

Through a combination of psychotherapy, mentorship, and intervention programmes, we create personalised action plans designed to support mental, emotional, and social well-being. We also extend our services to support young families and carers who are navigating these difficulties alongside them.

Our Vision

We are committed to:

  • Breaking down mental health stigmas

  • Helping young people rediscover their purpose and potential

  • Replacing “opps” with opportunities

  • Restoring hope to communities through education, intervention, and empowerment

With the help of our exceptional trustees, each bringing expertise from therapeutic, analytical, and mental health backgrounds, and our committed team of mentors and support staff, Akima is driving change where it is needed most.

Get Involved

We proudly champion peer-led services and invite young people to volunteer, share their experiences, and be part of a movement focused on healing and transformation.

Together, we are working toward a future where knife and gun crime are no longer daily headlines—and where our young people can feel safe, seen, and supported.

We are committed to doing our part. For our children. For your children. For our future.
