Who we are

Born from lived experience. Built for real impact.

Trauma-Informed at Our Core

Every interaction, every service, every space we create is rooted in trauma-informed practice — because healing requires safety first.

Akima was founded by a psychotherapist who has not only worked with trauma — but carried it too. We exist because the gap between statutory services and real-life need is too wide, and too many young people fall through it.

We are a grassroots, experience-led charity. That means we don't just understand the system — we've experienced it too. That's why we have created a safe, supportive environment where young people & families can heal, thrive and build brighter futures.

Bridging the Gap

We work with young people including those on CAMHS waiting lists, those left in limbo due to transitional age gaps, disengaged from traditional systems, and anyone who feels unseen or underserved.

Community at the Heart

There's no UNITY in the commUNITY without U and I. Our peer-led, community-rooted model means young people are part of the solution.

What we do

Our Services

We offer structured, tailored support — designed around the young person, not the system. Every pathway is built with care, expertise, and lived understanding.

Therapeutic Intervention

One-to-one and group therapeutic support delivered by qualified practitioners. We work with young people processing trauma, grief, anxiety, and complex emotional experiences — meeting them where they are.

Mentoring, Coaching & Befriending

Building connections and fostering a sense of belonging through community-based programs.

Psychoeducation

Understanding yourself is one of the most powerful tools you can have. Our psychoeducation sessions help young people make sense of their own minds — exploring how trauma affects the brain and body, how emotions work, and how to develop healthier coping strategies. Delivered in accessible, relatable ways that actually connect.

Workshops · Learning Sessions

Expressive & Creative Healing

Creative spaces where young people can process experiences through art, music, writing, and expression. Sometimes words aren't enough — and that's okay. We have other languages.

Wellbeing & Life Skills

Healing is one part of the journey — building a life you want to live is the other. Our Wellbeing & Life Skills support covers emotional wellbeing, self-care, confidence building, healthy relationships, and the practical everyday skills that young people often aren't taught but absolutely need. Because thriving looks different for everyone, and we're here to help you figure out what it looks like for you.

Early Intervention & Aftercare

We don't just show up in crisis — we stay. Our programmes provides structured early intervention and long-term aftercare, ensuring young people aren't left without support once acute services end.

Sexual Health

Family & Carer Support

Because trauma touches everyone around it. We offer a non-judgemental space for parents and carers to get support for themselves, their young person, and their wider family — because it takes a village.

Who we support

If life feels like too much right now — you're in the right place.

We support young people aged 16–25 who are navigating some of life's most difficult experiences. You don't need to have everything figured out to reach out. You just need to take one step.
